The snowstorm which was forecast to hit the South yesterday made a very fleeting appearance and faded throughout the day.
The Lindis Pass, linking Canterbury and Otago, opened about 9 am.
In Southland, State Highway 93 between Mataura and Clinton was closed early yesterday but was open by 10am. Snow continued to fall during the morning.
Winter conditions persist on SH6 at Jollies Hill, SH94 at Gorge Hill and SH96 between Wreys Bush and Ohai.
State Highway 94 between Te Anau and Milford Sound was closed early in the morning because of heavy snow but open about 10am.
Snow also fell in the centre of Queenstown for a short time in the afternoon.
Blackmount Hill was passable and the Gore District Council closed a couple of roads due to flooding.
