Polyfest offers children ‘really special’ opportunity

Otatara School pupils (from left) Hazely Hunt, 10, Scarlett Robson, 10, and Nicholas Hore, 11, were among thousands of children who performed at the first day of Murihiku Polyfest yesterday.

More than 120 schools from right across Southland will be taking part in the festival which celebrates Pasifika and Māori culture.

Event organiser Anjelina Nikora-Wilson said they were happy to achieve pre-Covid numbers of participants.

"I think one of the best things about Polyfest is that it's not a competition, and so everybody has a chance to get up on stage, to learn something new about a culture they may not know a lot about, and really get to show that to the community.

"It's really special and it means a lot."

Polyfest runs at ILT Stadium Southland until Friday.
