Police called to dispute

Police were called to the Gore District Council last night after a verbal dispute between members of the public.

Although the exact details are unclear, the police were called after one member of a rates reform group was, in her words, verbally harassed by members of a similar group and made to feel unsafe.

Two officers attended the scene and made inquiries, with no arrests made at the time of the incident.

The incident happened outside the council building after the meeting had concluded.

The meeting discussed the council’s long term plan.
