Pre-construction planning work is officially under way to replace the Riversdale Ambulance Station.

The station, which comprised a single bay ambulance garage and training room, was first assessed in 2011, following the Christchurch earthquakes. The station was found to be in need of strengthening.

The expected cost to build the station was about $150,000 in 2015 but when contacted by the Otago Daily Times, Hato Hone St John could not provide additional information on overall costs or further comments surrounding the build.

Hato Hone St John Area operations manager Braden Stark said in a statement the station would support the team of volunteers who assist in and around the area.

"Hato Hone St John is committed to serving the Riversdale community.

"The building of a new ambulance station in the district will support the work of our amazing team of dedicated volunteers who respond in times of need.

"... We anticipate construction will start in the coming months.

"We would like to acknowledge the continued support of our generous donors, the Riversdale community and the Hato Hone St John Hokonui Area Committee."

Riversdale Ambulance Station manager Dave Hurley said volunteers were looking forward to the new station.

"It’s been a long time coming, so we’re definitely looking forward to seeing the build completed."
