- A selection from the latest entries in the Otago Daily Times Magic Moments photography competition, including this year's winner.
Liza Frear-Hanson's family were teasing her about her trigger-happy photography during an excursion to the Naseby New Year's Day Kids Fun Day recently.
That was until one of her photos won the Otago Daily Times Magic Moments photograph competition.
"I was snapping lots of photos. My hubby bought me a bigger memory card so I could take more. I took hundreds - my family have been giving me a bit of a hard time about it."
Among the mountain of photos taken on her Fuji FinePix S5000 was a digital gem - a picture of Mrs Frear-Hanson's niece Branwen Jones (5) taking part in a sack race.
While the photo was memorable, it did not capture all the action of the event, she said.
"What you don't see in the picture is the boy on the left. Branwen fell over and took him out. She assures us it was an accident."
Needless to say, Branwen did not win the race. But the photograph did win.
It was downloaded by Branwen's mother and Mrs Frear-Hanson's sister, Kyra Jones, of Dunedin.
Mrs Jones said she decided to submit the photo "to see if it would get in the paper".
Mrs Frear-Hanson said everyone in the family was "buzzing" with excitement when they found out the photo had won the competition.
"It's kind of cool. Kyra was saying: `I won, I won'. I had to remind her that I took the photo."
Mrs Frear-Hanson won a prize of photographic printing to the value of $250 supplied by Jonathan's Photo Warehouse.
