Bull Monymusk Quebec 210042 sold for the top price of $14,000 at the Monymusk Polled Herefords 35th annual bull sale in Te Anau.

The bull sold to Ngakouka Herefords in Waitahora, near Dannevirke.

Monymusk Polled Herefords co-owner Chris Douglas said of the 34 bulls on offer, 28 sold for an average price of $7010.

The rest of the bull sold were for commercial use, mostly on farms in the South.

Considering the current economic climate, the sale result was very good, he said.

"The Hereford breed will continue to be a very strong part of the New Zealand beef industry as more and more breeders realise the advantage of hybrid vigour, as we are seeing in the North Island."
