The accident happened about 7.50pm on State Highway 6, the Haast Pass-Makarora Rd, near the Gates of Haast.

They arrived to find found one car upside down and injuries to occupants from both vehicles.
A St John spokesman said two ambulances and two rescue helicopters were dispatched.
Two occupants from the vehicles were found to have serious injuries, while a third person had minor injuries, he said.
The two with serious injuries were to be flown by helicopter to Dunedin Hospital.
