Sunny summer weather is expected over Otago for Waitangi weekend, with temperatures building up to 30degC or more by Sunday, the MetService says.
Tomorrow, Waitangi Day, on Friday was expected to be fine, but there might be a few showers as a southerly change blows through the region at night.
Otherwise, the weekend was expected to be warm and dry, with northeasterlies along the coast and northwesterlies inland.
By Sunday, temperatures were expected to rise into the high twenties or early thirties inland and the low to mid twenties along the coast.
Weather ambassador Bob McDavitt said the warmer weather would be brought by a slow-moving anticyclone, which would cover much of the country.
