He was 35-year-old David Andrew Dec. No further details have been released.
However in a statement on Thursday evening, police said the death would be referred to the coroner.
Mr Dec was skiing down Mt Aspiring when he fell, landing on the Bonar Glacier on Saturday.
His body was recovered by Wanaka Search and Rescue volunteers and an Aspiring Helicopters crew.
