Truck topples lifting work trench

Traffic had to be diverted from entering Lakeside Rd yesterday afternoon after a Hiab truck tipped over outside the Marina Terrace Apartments construction site in Wanaka.

Senior Constable Darren Cranfield attended the incident and said the Hiab on the back of the stationary truck had been lifting a large metal work trench when the whole unit tipped over about 3.45pm.

The truck was unoccupied and the lifting arm was being operated remotely at the time, he said.

Project manager for the $100million development Gordon McGregor said both WorkSafe and subcontractors would need to conclude their investigations before ‘‘we can hopefully establish what went wrong’’. REPORT & PHOTO: KERRIE WATERWORTH
