Friends of Bullock Creek and the Otago Fish & Game Council will host a fun day on February 2 for the community in celebration of wetlands and the ongoing restoration of the special site.
Friends of Bullock Creek initiated the restoration of the hatchery springs in 2016 and have had a lot of success.
Trustee Andy Oxley said when the project first started, the site had "gone wild" with a lot of invasive species affecting the biodiversity.
The restoration had gone a long way to revitalise the plant, fish and bird life, for which more than $200,000 had been raised over the years.
Ms Oxley emphasised the importance of the creek, calling it an "iconic little stream" which was a prominent part of Wanaka’s central landscape.
Fish & Game Otago had supported the project for many years and shared the view efforts to restore the creek should be celebrated.
Communications officer Bruce Quirey said the site was a "gem" and the aim had always been to make sure all species thrived.
As well as a free barbecue, the event will provide information about native species in the wetland as well as games for people to practise their casting.
The event will be held at the creek from 11am to 2pm on February 2 and is open to all.
