Treble Cone has decided to stick to its plan of closing tomorrow, despite there being plenty of snow on the mountain.

General manager Toby Arnott said the decision came as many of his staff had already committed to travelling overseas and the mountain could not continue to operate safely, which was his "highest priority".

A family closing event today featuring face-painting and treasure hunts will be followed by a dress-up day tomorrow with all-day celebrations in the main plaza.

Snow Farm will also close this weekend, although the trails and huts will remain open  until October 8.

Skiers will still be able to get their fix elsewhere, as Cardrona announced yesterday it would be extending its season by a week to October 21.

Over the hill in Queenstown, Coronet Peak plans to shut up shop on September 30, while The Remarkables will run  until October 7.
