Police appeal for information on burglaries

Wanaka police are appealing to the public for any information on a spate of burglaries and thefts involving vehicles and properties in the Northlake and Aubrey Rd area.

Senior Sergeant Miriam Reddington said police had received eight reports of burglaries occurring overnight and would like to hear from anyone in the Northlake, Aubrey and Outlet roads or Hidden Hills areas who may have CCTV which could assist the investigations.

Initial inquiries indicated the offending had largely been opportunistic, with the offender or offenders entering vehicles and properties which had been left unlocked, she said.

Senior Sergeant Reddington said basic security measures could significantly reduce the likelihood of theft or burglary occurring.

This includes making sure homes, including garages and garden sheds, and vehicles were always locked when not in use and valuables were removed or out of sight.
