Supporters of Wanaka's millennium path plan to renew their fight to have it left where it is on the Wanaka lakefront.

The original co-ordinator of the millennium project, Liz Hall, said yesterday a petition signed by 1741 people earlier this year would be recirculated to gather more support.

The Wanaka Community Board has "paused" work on the lakefront redevelopment that would have resulted in the path being removed and many of the tiles placed in a garden area.

Ms Hall and other supporters of the path object to the idea.

A small trial section of the 650m path was lifted last month to determine how difficult it would be to move.

Ms Hall said the cost estimate for lifting the tiles and putting them on pallets was $120,000, with no estimate of the cost of putting them in a new location.
