The consultation is being run by the Queenstown Airport Corporation and chief executive Colin Keel told the 80 people attending there were "no grand plans waiting in the wings''.
"Planning starts tonight,'' he said.
The meeting produced 18 topics considered important.
They included the cost of airport infrastructure not being borne by ratepayers, that the community's infrastructure kept up with airport developments, that the airport was developed as a multi-purpose aviation hub, that noise was minimised, that there be scheduled passenger services with more than one provider, that timetables and fares met the community's needs, that recreational aviation use of the airport remained viable and that buildings were beautifully designed.
A second consultation session was due to begin this morning.
