As the search for a permanent general manager for Ignite Wanaka Chamber of Commerce continues, the board appointed John Mezger as interim general manager yesterday.

He has been contracted to fill the role for the next three months.

Ignite Wanaka board chairwoman Jo Learmonth said Mr Mezger was an ideal fit for the role with his proven experience in business strategy, commercial acumen and as a qualified lawyer.

As interim general manager Mr Mezger will focus on developing and maintaining relationships with sponsors, stakeholders and members. He will work alongside Ignite Wanaka administrator Rachelle Blatch.

Originally from Colorado, Mr Mezger has lived in Wanaka since 1998.

His experience has varied across various industries such as MediaWorks and MTV Networks nationally, and as a lawyer with both Wanaka Law and Aspiring Law locally.

"I’m delighted to be stepping in to this interim position while we continue the recruitment process for a permanent GM," Mr Mezger said.

"As a board member, I am very passionate about the role that Ignite holds within our community – supporting businesses and individuals through advocacy and connections and celebrating success so that our local economy can thrive.’’

Mr Mezger will continue as a board member, refraining from voting if there is any conflict of interest.
