Public meetings are being held next week to discuss the Otago Regional Council’s proposed future management of river flows in both the Arrow and Cardrona Rivers.
Council policy and planning manager Anita Dawe said the proposal would be based on input from the communities about their values for the rivers and research on the ecology and hydrology of the rivers. Economic impacts would also be taken into account.
"ORC will present on our preferred option ... which seeks to provide for the needs and aspirations we have identified with the community while giving effect to ORC’s obligations under the Government’s national water direction.
"If the Arrow or Cardrona are important to you, we’d like to discuss the approach with you and answer any questions," Ms Dawe said.
The Arrow River meetings will take place on Wednesday, March 17, from 3pm-4.30pm or 7pm-8.30pm at St John's Church, Berkshire St, Arrowtown.
The Cardrona River meetings will take place on Thursday, March 18, from 1pm-2.30pm or 7pm-8.30pm at the Lake Wanaka Centre.
