After 26 years of service to the community, lots of splashing and millions of 25m lengths, the old Wanaka Swimming Pool in Plantation Rd closes for good at 5pm today.

The town’s new pool in the Three Parks subdivision will be officially opened tomorrow morning.  The old pool was a Wanaka Upper Clutha Lions Club project and opened in 1992, and club member Neville Harris will close the pool for the last time.

Pool co-ordinator Averil Boag (front left) said she would not miss the condensation that made everything wet and left the concrete walls dripping, and she suspected swimmers would appreciate having wider lanes, a warmer learners’ pool, spa pool and better facilities generally.

Both she and pool crew member Alice Mooney (rear right) will be making the move to Three Parks. A ‘‘kids’ party’’ will be held at the old pool today from 2pm-4pm.
