Associate Minister for Housing and Urban Development Jenny Salesa has been considering an application for a 400-lot SHA on the outskirts of the town since mid-December.
In an invitation sent on Monday, Hawea Community Association chairwoman April Mackenzie highlighted failings with the town's infrastructure, and likely demand for housing.
''The community respectfully requests that you visit Lake Hawea in assessing the proposal for a SHA outside of the Lake Hawea urban growth boundary.
''You will be able to observe the significant consented land available for development inside that boundary that will more than meet any future growth.''
Ms Salesa has said previously she ''may consider'' visiting the town.
Ms Mackenzie said yesterday the association had not heard from Ms Salesa.
