Police say an explosion heard in Hawea this afternoon was due to work near a high country station.
A spokeswoman said police were alerted by members of the public who reported hearing an explosion on the Albert Town side of Lake Hawea near a road to the Hawea camping ground, about 12.10pm.
Police went to the scene, found everyone was safe, and could find no source of the reported explosion.
By 12.45pm the situation was clarified, when police inquiries indicated the blast had actually come from the opposite side of the lake, to the east, the spokeswoman said.
Explosives had been used in the vicinity of Dingleburn Station, perhaps to clear fallen debris from a road, in a much more remote area, she said.
