Five weeks of hearings on parts of the Queenstown Lakes District Council proposed district plan began at Lake Hawea yesterday.
Commissioners have started hearing evidence on submissions to the Upper Clutha Mapping stream concerning changes to zoning allocations in the Upper Clutha.
Included in the submissions is the controversial proposal to rezone the area known as Sticky Forest, from rural general to low-density residential.
Other submissions include increasing the size of the residential zone in Lake Hawea and allowing a new commercial zone in Cardrona Valley Rd.
Chairman Trevor Robinson will be joined by commissioners Calum MacLeod, Ian Munro and Jenny Hudson throughout the hearings.
About 1200 submissions on the proposed plan were received by the council.
The hearings will be held at the Lake Hawea Community Centre, the Lake Wanaka Centre and the Edgewater Resort.
A timetable can be found on the council's website www.qldc.govt.nz/planning/district-plan/proposed-district-plan.f
