A street parade and public celebration for Wanaka-based Olympians Zoi Sadowski-Synnott and Nico Porteous will be held tomorrow afternoon in downtown Wanaka, giving the local community a chance to congratulate the teenagers and share in their success.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council confirmed yesterday afternoon a street parade around central Wanaka would be followed by an autograph session at the Cardrona office on the corner of Helwick and Dunmore Sts.

The council could not confirm whether Zoi and Nico would be accompanied by other athletes, such as the Wells brothers.

The parade will begin at 3.30pm and take an estimated 15 minutes.

The council said the pair would have their bronze medals with them.

Mayor Jim Boult said the parade was planned to coincide with the end of the school day and he hoped many children would come and show their support.

Mr Boult said the athletes were ''inspirational''.

''On behalf of the whole district I would like to congratulate Zoi and Nico for their awe-inspiring performances as well as all the other athletes - some of whom came so close to Olympic medals - coaches, support staff, friends and families who have contributed to a wonderful team performance.''

''It was clear from the TV coverage how much New Zealand athletes are liked and respected by their fellow competitors from around the world. I think that says a lot about our country in general and this region in particular where so many of them live and train.''

Zoi and Nico arrived in Auckland yesterday after leading New Zealand out in the closing ceremony of the country's most successful Winter Olympics.

The 16-year-olds land in Queenstown about 2pm today, where they will be welcomed by deputy mayor Calum MacLeod.

To cap off her hectic week since breaking New Zealand's 26-year medal drought at the Winter Olympics, Zoi is also set to be the subject of a special assembly at her high school, Mount Aspiring College, tomorrow morning.
