The chain gang

It is that time of the year when snow chains must be carried, but many of us do not know how to put them on.

Yesterday, the Queenstown Lakes District Council hosted its annual Wanaka free chain-fitting workshop for first-timers and those needing a refresher down at the lakefront.

After being given a demonstration by a Downer contractor, a "nervous" John Warner, of Wanaka, took the opportunity to practise putting the snow chains on with help only a car park away.
