Armed offenders squad members were dispatched to a property on the Luggate-Cromwell highway after a woman was delivered to the Wānaka Police Station by a truck driver.

Senior Sergeant Graham Perkins, of Alexandra, said the situation began as a domestic dispute between the woman and a 28-year old man.

The incident occurred on Wednesday last week.

The man allegedly assaulted the woman and used a knife to stab walls and doors at the property.

After refusing to let the woman leave, the man later pushed her out of the house.

She was able to flag down a passing truck.

The truck driver took her to the Wānaka Police Station, Snr Sgt Perkins said.

The armed offenders squad and a police negotiator were sent to the property.

They were able to talk the man into coming out of the house, he said.

The man was arrested and was remanded in custody after appearing in the Queenstown District Court on charges including assault in a family relationship, intentional damage and possession of an offensive weapon, Snr Sgt Perkins said.
