A Wanaka film-maker will see his work on the big screen a little sooner than you might expect.

Ten-year-old Nat Warburton’s   12-minute documentary-style film,  More Adventure Less Talk, will be shown at this year’s New Zealand Mountain Film Festival.

Inspired by his adventures, including a rock-climbing tour of the South Island during summer, the film took about three months to film and edit.

The film was completed "right on the last day", Nat said.

"I didn’t expect it to get in, so it was pretty exciting."

He was looking forward to seeing his creation on the big screen, but  was also excited about being able to talk to the other film-makers and attend some of the workshops being held during the festival, Nat said.

"Just seeing the other films and talking to the film-makers will be a pretty cool experience, I think."

As for making a career out of film-making, he was happy to keep it as a hobby for now but  was already working on his next film, Nat said.

As well being able to call himself an accomplished film-maker, he is also the New Zealand under-12 rock-climbing champion.

"I like being outdoors and I hope the film inspires people too."

Nat’s entry was just one of six films made by Wanaka film-makers being shown at the festival. Festival director Mark Sedon said  this year’s offerings were particularly innovative and the quality of the film-makers shined through in all the films.

A focus on the environment and culture was a common thread,  Mr Sedon said.

"Amongst all this adrenaline and fun, the films reveal immense respect for the people and places along the way."

The 15th New Zealand Mountain Film and Book Festival will run from June 30 to July 9 in Wanaka, Cromwell and Queenstown.
