The Ardmore St shop is operated by Bidfood which is part of a global food business listed on the Johannesburg stockmarket as Bidcorp.
Bidfood New Zealand chief executive Phil Struckman told the Otago Daily Times yesterday the lease on the Wānaka building was coming to an end.
"We are looking to close but we are going through a consultation process with staff at the moment.
"We’re working through all options and we’re open to all options and obviously engaging the staff to see what alternatives we can come up with."
Mr Struckman said the company would be in a position to make a final decision by the end of next week.
The Wānaka store opened in the early 2000s at a time when Wānaka was served by one large and one small supermarket.
The Wānaka store began as an extension of Queenstown’s Mediterranean Market but was sold to Bidvest in 2005.
