Breakdowns and bad weather are making for tricky times on southern roads this morning.
Police said a suspected breakdown had caused traffic to bank up on Cardrona Valley Rd, near Pringles Creek Rd, at Cardrona from 8.40am.
Police had received multiple calls about the traffic being blocked, a spokeswoman said.
''There was some sort of breakdown or blockage on the Cardrona Valley Rd in the southbound lane of 1000 cars.''
Meanwhile, a car has crashed into a power pole on Tiwai Rd near Invercargill.
A police spokeswoman said the crash happened just past the Hall Rd intersection about 7am.
''The pole was leaning against the car . . . there was a lot of hail on the road.''
An ambulance attended but no one was taken to hospital.
Also in Southland, a silver stationwagon slid off Edendale-Woodlands Highway in Mabel Bush at 8.30am today.
The driver was not injured, the spokeswoman said.
