Taste of wild job

Finding out what the job of a wildlife ranger entails attracted about 40 people to celebrate World Ranger Day with the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust yesterday.

Trust supporters from Dunedin, Balclutha, Te Anau and Karitane took part in the experience, which included spending a day with trust ranger Leith Thomson and an exclusive tour at a yellow-eyed penguin reserve in North Otago.

General manager Sue Murray said it was a chance for people to see first-hand what the trust did to help save yellow-eyed penguins.

It was hoped the day would become an annual event, she said.
