The show was set down for January 15 next year, and association president Wayne Malcolm said yesterday the committee decided to cut its losses before entries had started to be taken and sponsorship was sought for the event.
‘‘We just didn’t know what the situation was going to be on the public side of it all,’’ he said.
It meant all organisers of the event could now enjoy their summer holidays, he said.
‘‘Normally, we all rush back from our summer holidays but we won’t need to do that this time.’’
Organisers of the Winton show’s shearing event would make a decision in the next two to three weeks about whether it would still be held, he said.
It was also announced yesterday the Lake Hayes A&P show, also set for January 15, had been cancelled.
Gore A&P Association secretary Becs Paterson said the committee was meeting on Monday night to decide whether its show would go ahead on February 5.
The Southland A&P Show, set down for March 5 next year, said on its Facebook page its show was on hold until the end of this month.
The Wyndham A&P Show, which was to have been be held on December 4, had also been cancelled.
The Waiau A&P Association secretary could not be contacted for comment yesterday.
