Outdoor adventure store Torpedo7 will soon open the doors of its first store in Invercargill, generating 15 jobs in the region.
The 1200sq m store will be located in Leven St in the space previously occupied by Warehouse Stationery.
Torpedo7 chief operating officer Garth Sutherland said the brand already had some customers in the region who shopped online,
so having a physical store was an exciting opportunity for the brand.
"As New Zealand’s southern tip, Invercargill has endless opportunities for adventure right on its doorstep, including being the gateway to Stewart Island’s wilderness, the Rakiura Track, as well as spectacular forest walks and waterfalls located at the nearby Catlins, and so opening a store in the region was a natural fit for us," he said.
The store was due to open before the end of the year, but it might be early next year, depending on Covid restrictions, he said.
It would offer the full range of Torpedo7 adventure gear as well as a specialist on-site bike shop providing gear repair, safety checks and maintenance services.
Initially, the company planned to employ 15 people to work in the new store, Mr Sutherland said.
