Three hurt in serious Southland crash

Three people have been taken to hospital, including one in a serious condition, after a car and tractor collided near Riverton, in Southland, this afternoon.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said the incident happened on Thornbury Waimatuku Rd about 2.40pm.

One person received serious injuries and was taken to Southland Hospital by helicopter.

A police spokesman said two others received moderate injuries.

There was a lot of debris at the scene.

Emergency services are still at the scene investigating the incident. A rescue helicopter was seen leaving at 4.30pm.
