Three hospitalised in separate Southland crashes

Three people have been taken to Southland Hospital today after two serious crashes in the region.

Two people were hospitalised in the first of the crashes this afternoon.

A police spokesman said they received a report that a car had rolled on Gropers Bush-Thornbury Rd at 12.40pm.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said two crews from Otautau Station and Thornbury Station responded.

Nobody was trapped in the incident, she said.

A St John spokeswoman said two ambulances attended the scene.

Three patients were attended to.

One had serious injuries, another moderate injuries, and the third minor injuries.

The patients with serious and moderate injuries were transported to Southland Hospital.

The police serious crash unit will investigate the second of the region's crashes.

A police spokesman said police responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on Orr Rd, near Balfour at 2.50pm.

The vehicle had a single occupant and the road was closed for some time due to it being blocked by a vehicle.

The police serious crash unit has been notified and will investigate, he said.

A spokeswoman from Fire and Emergency New Zealand said that it attended the crash and assisted at the scene.

Two crews, from Balfour Station and Lumsden Station, attended, she said.

A St John Spokeswoman said it responded with one first response vehicle and two ambulances which attended the scene.

One patient in critical condition was transported to Southland Hospital, she said.
