A 15-year-old Invercargill teenager faces his third drink-driving charge after being apprehended in Queenstown this week, allegedly with a breath-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit for someone his age.
Acting Sergeant Blair Duffy said the teen had a breath-alcohol level of 370mcg, 220mcg over the youth limit.
The teen, who has a learner's licence and was not supposed to be driving because of his bail conditions, allegedly recorded a level of 668mcg in Queenstown on January 13 and 528mcg in Invercargill on March 28.
He was due to appear in the Invercargill Youth Court on August 6.
Two women, aged 38 and 39, were charged with abetting the boy to drive.
Sgt Duffy said the women had encouraged the boy to drive them to a dairy for more alcohol.
The boy was stopped as part of a traffic blitz in Queenstown this week.
The 39-year-old also faces two charges of assaulting police, one of common assault and one of resisting arrest.
The women will appear in the Queenstown District Court on July 27.
Sgt Duffy said 157 infringement notices were issued and six people arrested during the operation.
Police spokeswoman Kaye Calder said it was "unusual" for a 15-year-old to appear in the Youth Court on drink-driving charges with such frequency.
