A motorcyclist's brush with death has been graphically caught on camera after he comes off his bike and slides across the path of a van with milliseconds to spare.
The dramatic footage of the near tragedy which happened earlier this week has been uploaded to YouTube by poster Dr1fto.
It shows a rider losing control of his bike as he comes to a T-intersection in Hardy St, Invercargill.
As he approaches a stop sign, the rider slams on the brakes causing the bike to slide sideways and hurling him across the road into the path of a van towing a trailer.
The van takes evasive action, its front wheels narrowly missing the man who skids around 10m over the road, eventually coming to rest against a set of letterboxes.
The rider is seen picking himself up despite a brutal blow to his head as his body flips over a gutter.
Poster Dr1fto said the van driver was fine but the motorcyclist did a runner.
It's proved shocking viewing for some.
"Bloody lucky! That could have been very nasty!" commented Dash Cam Footage New Zealand.
"Lucky that van didn't do an awesome flip trying to stop like that!" wrote snigie1.
