A random act of drunken violence in Owaka early on Thursday put a 17-year-old man in Dunedin Hospital.
The occupant of a house in Owaka was watching television, when a man approached the house and punched out the glass sliding door about midnight.
He severed the main artery in his right arm and suffered sever blood loss before being taken to Dunedin Hospital for an operation.
Owaka police Constable Murray Hewitson said the 17-year-old was drunk, the pair were not known to each other, and the act appeared completely random.
The man will be facing intentional damage charges, Const Hewitson said.
