No gun pulled in bar: police

Police yesterday issued a statement correcting information released on Sunday about an incident in Gore involving a firearm.

On Sunday afternoon, Invercargill police issued a statement saying a man allegedly presented a double-barrelled shotgun in a Gore bar on Saturday night following a day of duck-shooting and drinking.

"There was a verbal altercation with one male in the bar and the offender has then presented a double-barrelled shotgun at this male, which caused all patrons to flee from the bar," police said.

The Invercargill armed offenders squad later located the alleged offender and a loaded weapon. No shots were fired.

A second statement, which said a gun was not presented in the bar, was issued yesterday.

Attributed to Sergeant Ian Temple, of Gore, the statement said the man "threatened the other male who had been in the disagreement with his friend".

"This took place outside the front of the bar. Bar staff kept patrons inside the bar."

A 24-year-old unemployed Gore man appeared in the Invercargill District Court yesterday on charges of presenting a firearm, unlawfully possessing a firearm, and being an intoxicated person in charge of a firearm. He was remanded in custody to appear in the Gore District Court tomorrow.
