Man faces child porn charges

A 77-year-old Invercargill man yesterday appeared in the Invercargill District Court on 17 charges of possessing child pornography.

The man, who was granted interim name suppression by Judge Russell Walker, did not enter pleas to the charges which are alleged to have happened for almost a decade, between October 6, 2011 and September 1, last year.

Defence counsel Scott Williamson asked for a three-week remand on all matters so he could go through police disclosure with his client.

The man was remanded on bail to appear on April 5. — PIJF court reporter Karen Pasco
