Local Powerball $5m winner yet to claim prize — ‘it is really exciting’

The  Invercargill Lotto winner who scooped $5million has yet to claim the prize.

A ticket bought at Collingwood Foodcentre in Invercargill at the weekend was one of 10 winning tickets nationwide which will share the $50million Powerball jackpot.

Store general manager Rachel Bryce said yesterday she was excited to hear the news.

‘‘It was lovely to hear that the person who won got the ticket was from our store. It is really nice to have something coming to Southland for a change. It is really exciting.’’

During her 10-year tenure at the store there had been first division prizes but this one was the biggest.

The New Zealand Herald reported yesterday only two of the 10 winners of the $50million Powerball prize had claimed their millions.

However, a Lotto spokeswoman was unable to confirm or provide any further information, saying Lotto ‘‘have heard from some of the Powerball winners but not all of them’’.

The winning tickets were sold at Collingwood Foodcentre, New World Melody’s (Palmerston North), Andrew Spence Pharmacy (Napier), MyLotto (Tauranga), Lincoln Heights Superette (Auckland) and My Lotto (Auckland).
