An Invercargill house has sustained some extensive damage in a fire this morning, but the blaze is now under control.
Southern communications shift manager Andrew Norris said three appliances were sent to Queens Drive, near the corner of Duke St about 11am following reports of fire and smoke billowing from a house.
Within about an hour, the blaze was under control.
However, there was extensive damage to parts of the property and it was unclear how far it had spread.
Nobody was home at the time it caught alight and no injuries had been reported.
Police were in attendance leading traffic management control and keeping onlookers at a safe distance.
People stood by watching as emergency services got the fire under control.
Smoke was coming from the roof near the back of the property.
It was not yet clear what had caused the fire.
