A house in Southland was damaged in a "well involved" fire yesterday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the house fire in Longridge Rd, North of Balfour, about 4.20pm.
A Fire and Emergency spokesman said a total of four pumps and four tankers were involved in battling the blaze, with initial crews from Balfour requesting more crews and resources.
When the extra resources arrived they began fighting the fire from inside the house.
They managed to extinguish the fire by 7.11pm, he said.
The cause of the blaze and the extent of the damage was not known, he said.
