Four fire appliances were at the scene, with two tankers also being sent.
A Fire and Emergency spokesman said they received a call at 6.39pm of a fire on Tiwai Rd and crews had arrived by 6.55pm.
Crews had come from Tiwai, Kingswell and Invercargill.
The spokesman said at 8pm that the 2000sq m blaze was in vegetation and not threatening any buildings.
It was contained shortly before 9pm.
