A middle-aged Gore man who was confined to a wheelchair died on Tuesday, after his oxygen gas bottle exploded.
‘‘He was on oxygen and lit a cigarette and the gas bottle exploded,'' an Invercargill police spokesman said last night.
The man was admitted to Southland Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
‘‘It's now a matter for the coroner,'' the spokesman said.
No further details were available last night.
