Most Gore councillors are calling for an independent review aimed at restoring confidence in their council after a relationship breakdown between the mayor and the chief executive.
An intermediary had to be appointed for Gore Mayor Ben Bell and Gore District Council chief executive Steve Parry.
Deputy mayor Keith Hovell said confidential information from a March 28 meeting was leaked. His notice of motion, endorsed by eight councillors, asked for a review "advising on the practical measures that can be undertaken to restore confidence in the Gore District Council".
"The appointment of an independent reviewer, who will provide recommendations for future actions, is an important next step in giving confidence to the community that improvements will be made, and the distractions caused by recent events will be left behind," Mr Hovell said.
