Four people have been arrested after a spate of burglaries from Southland farms during the Christmas-New Year period.
Police said today the charges related to the targeting of more than 10 rural properties outside Invercagill. Items had been taken from sheds and in one case a home.
Two men, aged 37 and 24, have appeared in the Invercargill District Court and were remanded to reappear on January 31.
A 15-year-old male youth would appear at the Invercargill Youth Court today.
A woman from Invercargill had also appeared in the district court, charged with receiving some of the stolen property. The 24-year-old would reappear on January 26.
Detective Sergeant Grant Johnstone, of Invercargill, said police had recovered some of the stolen property which included fuel containers, electrical tools, frozen meat, jewellery, clothing and lawnmowers.
Inquiries were continuing and further arrests were likely, he said.
Police reminded people in rural areas to be extra security conscious and vigilant.
Det Sgt Johnstone said police would like to hear from anyone with information or who saw people or vehicles acting suspiciously.
People should record a description and any vehicle registrations whenever possible, and report to police immediately on 111.
