Riverton volunteer firefighters, past and present, gathered in the picturesque seaside township to celebrate the brigade’s 75th jubilee at the weekend.

Celebrations ran from Friday to yesterday, while the Jubilee Dinner on Saturday evening was the premier event.

Riverton Volunteer Brigade Chief Fire Officer Jeremy Raines said he was excited about the weekend’s events, even though not everything had quite gone to plan.

A vintage fire truck display had been planned for the public on Saturday afternoon, vintage fire engines coming from Invercargill and Thornbury. However, mechanical problems in both trucks prevented them from joining the display, forcing the Riverton brigade’s original vintage engine (pictured) to make a solo appearance alongside the brigade’s current commission.
