A scrub fire beside railway tracks closed the Main South Line for over an hour this afternoon.
Edendale volunteer firefighter Brent Shepherd said a crew was called to the scrub and gorse blaze about 3pm near Edendale in Southland.
It took about an hour to get the fire under control, and it was unclear what caused the blaze, he said.
KiwiRail spokeswoman Faith Thumath confirmed the line was closed for 80 minutes.
