Environment Southland will reopen its office tomorrow in the aftermath of a Covid-19 scare last week.

On Friday, the Southland’s regional council closed its office until further notice after a contact of a positive Covid-19 case visited and met staff.

Chief executive Rob Phillips yesterday said the visitor had tested negative for Covid-19 after an initial test.

‘‘They will remain in self-isolation for further tests, but advice is that as the initial test was negative, it is very unlikely our visitor was infectious when they were in our building.’’

Mr Phillips said closing the office was a precautionary measure while they waited for further information, but now he was confident to open the office in Invercargill tomorrow with standard precautions in place.

Mr Philips was encouraging as many staff as possible to work from home and customers to consider phoning or emailing.
