Recent upgrades to a Bluff off-leash area mean it is no dog’s breakfast.Dozens of dogs and their owners headed down to the Ocean Beach Dog Off Leash Area on Saturday to celebrate the improvements at Dogs Day Out.
The Invercargill City Council event was held to highlight the recent improvements, such as fencing and gates, to the only place in the town where dog owners can exercise their pets off-leash.
Animal control officer Jo Cockroft said it was a fun day.
"This gives the owners and dogs an area to free-run."
Southland man John Taylor (left) attended with his pest -detecting dogs. He gave a couple of demonstrations for how they search for velvetleaf, but they also had a romp around.
Southern Institute of Technology vet nursing students were giving free health checks for dogs and free microchipping.
Mobile eftpos was available for people to register their dogs if they had not done so already.
