The Gore District Council has posted a modest surplus.
The official 2008-09 annual report, to be adopted next week, shows a $57,000 surplus, but Mayor Tracy Hicks and council chief executive Steve Parry both say it was a productive 12 months.
More than $2 million was spent on new sewage treatment plants and upgrades at Gore and Mataura to improve the quality of effluent discharged into the Mataura River.
The Mataura Community Centre, opened a year ago, has already become an integral part of the community, they said.
And the completion of new public toilets in Gore 's main street "has finally removed the one continuing blight on the Gore streetscape".
The council's regulatory services team was involved in processing the application from TrustPower to establish a wind farm at Kaiwera Downs.
The council received slightly more in rates revenue this year compared with the previous 12 months.
It banked $10,076,000 in rates in the 2009 year, up about $700,000 on the previous financial period.
But the council 2009 surplus of $57,000 compares with a $672,000 surplus in the 2008 period.
