Four Mataura community groups have received grants totalling $115,720 from the Coster Fund.
In 1999, the estate of the late Claude Andrew Coster gave a bequest of $215,000 to the Gore District Council.
The money was to be invested for 10 years, after which the funds were to be distributed to benefit Mataura.
The Mataura and Districts Historical Society received $79,020 to renovate the former Mataura Library for use as a heritage centre; $15,000 was given to the Royal New Zealand Plunket Society's Mataura branch to establish a pre-school playground at Queens Park; $11,700 went to the Mataura Youth Centre Trust to upgrade the stage area of the old town hall; and $10,000 went to the Mataura and Districts Marae Society to assist with completion of carving in the Wharenui.
